March Edgar County fatal crash cause of death ruled as homicide

EDGAR COUNTY, Ill. (WTHI) - The Edgar County coroner has ruled the cause of death for a crash earlier this year as a homicide.

The two-vehicle crash happened in March on Route 1 north of 1960th Road. James Lutz, 70, from Chrisman, was killed.

In March, Edgar County Coroner Scott Barrett said it was a head-on collision between two trucks.

The other driver, officials identified as Melissa Edwards, 38, of Marshall, was injured.

In a Wednesday update, Barrett said toxicoligy reports came back and showed Edwards was under the influnce of Methamphetamine and Ketamine when the crash happened.

The case will now be sent to the State's Attorney's Office to determine criminal charges.
