GREENE COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - A local library is offering more than just books to people in the area.
The Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County public library started a community garden in 2023. It began as a program to show people that they too can grow a garden of their own. Since then, the program received grant money to expand things.
Now, it's used to feed the needy, teach kids about nutrition, and provides a space for people to work on their green thumb.
"There is a lot of food insecurity and folks who are really feeling the economy right now, groceries are higher, cost of living is just higher, so as a library, I want a place for the community to come," said library director, Jessica McKamey.Â
The library has a box full of harvested produce that anyone is welcome to collect. People are also allowed to harvest their own from the garden, too.
